Sammy Rae & The Friends AND Melt @ The Truman, KC

I have never experienced a concert crowd so ecstatic and electric. Sammy Rae likes to set some guidelines for a good time, three rules that approximate to: be aware of yourself and others, take care of yourself and others, and whatever energy the crowd gives: the band will give back. The crowd gave the bands a show, and in return the bands gave the crowd an unforgettable experience.

Melts’ set created the intimate tone for the night, with foot tapping, tambourine shaking, new-gen jazzing rhyme and rythm; the indie bedroom-pop transformed from digital to life. Assisted by an amazing lights and audio team—no one was left without feeling a moment of cathartic peace.

Oh and what sexy smooth sax did Sammy Rae & The Friends bring. Melt was an excellent energizing pre-game, but Sammy Rae & The Friends took the crowd on a funky party-hopping journey:

To carry the metaphor, The first function had the love-sick touch-and-go crush of the year, the second function was at the hometown bar having you reminiscing on what could’a been. The night transitioned into a political resistance fugue, carried home by the friends from the pre-game where you all end up at home. Taking a minute with yourself—Sammy Rae performs a few intimate songs alone, only to come back with the band—we go back into the house and spend the last moments of the night talking it up (pun intended) with our friends until we fall asleep.

One of, if not the best, concerts I have ever been to. With an amazing setlist, sound and lights crew, and electric crowd. An experience to remember
